Continuing our series on Jura stone in interiors, we present one of the largest shopping and leisure centres in Vladivostok.
Kalina Mall stands on Kalinina Street beside Golden Horn Bay. KM Architects delivered the project to an exceptionally tight programme. Client Artayar wanted a natural interior material with excellent performance for a centre intended to attract both residents and visitors to Primorye's newly opened visa-free zone, at a standard comparable with leading European and North American retail destinations.
Drawing on the architects' experience in Britain and Italy, the client selected Jura Limestone.
Individual mosaic patterns were developed for different sections of the promenade between boutiques and shops.
Full-size floor mock-ups were produced for approval by the client and architect.
🔍The photograph shows a mock-up being installed with the participation of a German specialist.
To give the pattern its individual character, the architect and client included large 900 × 900 × 20 mm slabs in several tones. The palette combines Jura Cream, Jura Gold, Jura Noce and Jura Beige.
Columns and pilasters were also clad in Jura stone from different quarry layers, creating a gradual transition from darker to lighter tones.
This pilaster combines grey-blue Jura Blue on the lower slab with Jura Travertine laid so that its veins run horizontally.
Kalina Mall is a landmark in Primorye's contemporary architectural landscape. Its quality was recognised with a first-class certificate in the 2020 award for Russia's best shopping and leisure centre.
