Almaty Museum of Arts

About the project
We present to your attention the Museum of Contemporary Art in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan. The project was implemented by the renowned philanthropist Nurlan Smagulov and designed by the architectural bureau Moscow CT-Architects (a subsidiary of Chapman Taylor Architects). The museum opened in September 2025, which opened up opportunities for exhibitions of renowned masters and painters of Central Asia. The design of the volumetric architecture is executed in a minimalist style using natural materials. Natural Jura Beige Jurassic marble with a honed surface finish was chosen for the facade cladding. To emphasize the contrast of the building, various shades of beige Jurassic stone were selected to create a color mosaic on large-format areas between translucent structures and stained-glass windows.
