As we have previously indicated, the physicochemical properties of different limestones are closely interrelated, and the final result of the operation of a particular limestone can be observed in real life after some time. The plinth is the most exposed vertical surface of the building facade to aggressive external environment. It can be assumed that more "severe" operating conditions are likely for horizontal slabs of entrance areas of buildings outside and inside. The main critical factors are the chemical impact of salt water and the physical impact of alternating freezing and thawing. In this article, we would like to show a comparison of two limestones, one of which is Jurassic and the other is unknown and was chosen based on the principle of banal presence in the architectural concept of an administrative building and, accordingly, parallel operation under the same conditions. Please note that this article is not a result of a direct comparison of Jurassic limestone with a competitive stone through laboratory tests within a scientific experiment, but simply a description of a random observation of the final result of real outdoor operation. As can be seen from the photographs taken on a building put into operation about 6 years ago, the first slab of Jurassic marble (the lowest to the ground surface) is partially damaged and has clear signs of destruction. In the other limestone, similar destruction is present already on the second level of slabs and sometimes higher. In our opinion, considering the total service life of the building and the same conditions, a conclusion can be drawn about the physical and technical properties of these limestones. The stone, whose destruction process has moved to the second or even partially third level of slabs from the ground surface, has a lower margin of durability in the perspective of the entire service life of the building. Unfortunately, when making a decision on choosing natural stone for facade cladding, the customer is not always guided by objective data regarding the durability of a particular natural stone, but is more subject to the prevalence of the economic component of the selection criterion. We encounter such decisions, as a rule, after losing tenders, but after some time, the dialogue resumes, but already with the organizations operating this building. Natural Jurassic limestone can generally be used even on the plinth of administrative buildings, but engineering and chemical methods of protecting it from destruction must be used. In addition, it is necessary to consult with the primary source (the quarry of Jurassic stone extraction) to select the finishing material for a specific project.
