New Museum of Liverpool
About the project
We present to your attention an extraordinary project of a new museum in Liverpool, England. The project was designed by the Danish architectural firm 3XN-Architects and was realized in 2011. It was the largest museum built in the United Kingdom in the last 100 years. It is also the first museum dedicated to the history of only one city. Natural Jurassic marble of a light shade, taken from the 17th layer with a scratched surface, which is quite rare and exclusive, was used for the facade cladding. The location of the museum was not chosen by chance. It is situated between the UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Albert Dock and Pier Head, as well as near the complex of buildings known as the Three Graces. The external appearance of the museum is formed by panels of Jurassic marble of various shapes, including elongated triangles. The geometric precision of the cutting and strict tolerance requirements posed a non-trivial challenge for the stone processing production.
