In previous articles, we tried to briefly describe the issue of the relationship between the physical and technical properties of limestones and their use as cladding for premium segment buildings as part of a ventilated curtain wall facade. Jurassic marbled limestones are not homogeneous in their properties, which necessitates their conscious selection for exterior facade cladding. As is known, Jurassic stone occurs over fairly large areas in Northern Bavaria and preferably close to the surface. This makes it relatively accessible for extraction and gives it a moderate economic component compared to the mine method of production.
🔍As can be seen from the photograph, Jurassic marble occurs in layers, and this determines its block structure as well as its physical and technical properties. In nature, there are about 30 layers of Jurassic stone. Historically, layers from the first to the 25th are used. It should, however, be borne in mind that in some quarries layers above the 25th layer may also be suitable for processing and accordingly used as facing material. It is important to understand that Jurassic limestone was formed over millions of years, and layers that are practically located only a few meters apart in height differ by hundreds of thousands of years on the time scale. Nevertheless, there is a certain "homogeneity" of Jurassic stone within one layer, due to the time interval of its formation. Undoubtedly, Jurassic limestone cannot be absolutely homogeneous stone, like any natural material, because it was formed through natural processes, not by human technology. Also, in the case of Jurassic stone, it is impossible to talk about serial production, since the spread of parameters varies in a different range than the industrial manufacture of artificial material. However, there is long-standing statistics indicating that from certain layers of Jurassic marble, subject to professional selection by trained personnel and rejection during production, decent results can be achieved in terms of the quality of finished elements. Moreover, the wide availability of Jurassic stone in different quarries and terraces makes it possible to simultaneously extract material of the required level of quality and physical and technical characteristics in sufficient quantities for the implementation of large construction projects within adequate project deadlines.
